  ABOUT
HISTORY

The Dallas Bar Foundation (DBF) was chartered by the State of Texas in March, 1971 to provide financial support for law related research, publications, and forums; law related scholarships and education; and charitable and legal aid for the impoverished.

Six years later, the charter was amended to provide for the preservation of historic structures. The first project of the DBF was to raise funds to purchase and restore the old Belo Mansion as headquarters for the Dallas Bar Association (DBA) and the DBF.

Since the first grant was awarded in 1981, the DBF has awarded over $6.6 million for scholarships, DBA sponsored charitable and educational projects and programs, and grants to area non-profit organizations. DBF revenue is generated by the DBA membership dues check off, interest on investments, an annual DBF Fellows campaign, planned giving, and memorial contributions.

Recipients of the DBF grants include Dallas Urban Debate Alliance, the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, (DVAP), DBA Legalline, DISD Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet High School, IGNITE of Texas, Dallas CASA, YMCA Youth and Government Program, Human Rights Initiative, and the Texas High School Mock Trial Competition.
